Windward Beat began in the fall of 2021 as a group of folks from a local boating club who were looking for something to do to pass the time in the cold winter months. We started doing jam sessions one night a week, inviting whomever expressed some interest. The COVID pandemic had kept us from performing live, so we enthusiastically jumped on the opportunity to play with fellow sailors and friends. It wound up being the same 4 people showing up for the sessions every week, realizing our voices and instruments blended well to create great harmonies, playing classic and acoustic rock songs we all loved from the 1970's to the present, and even some original tunes as well. As most of the members of the band are sailors, we settled on the name Windward Beat, which is a play on words for a nautical term for when a boat is happily sailing or “beating” into the wind!
